All-in-one software for video editing

Overview

DaVinci Resolve is a platform that combines professional 8K editing, visual effects, color correction, and audio post-production.

This software started as an advanced color grading tool for professional editors. But, it quickly evolved over the years. Now, DaVinci Resolve 16 includes a full suite of tools such as audio editing, media organization, audio editing, delivery, and motion graphics.

With a single click, editors can move between color, effects, and audio. Since you’re doing everything in the same application, it’s unnecessary to export or translate files between separate software tools.

DaVinci Resolve boasts of being the only post-production software that’s designed for true collaboration. Whether you’re an editor, colorist, VFX artist, or sound engineer, you can work with other people on the same project at the same time.

Features of DaVinci Resolve

Here are some of the features of this software tool.

1. Cut Page

The Cut Page feature is specially designed for editing processes in which speed is an essential factor. These include TV commercials and news cutting.

The Cut Page is an alternate edit page that features a streamlined interface and tools to enable editors to work faster. Aside from importing and editing, users can also trim, add transitions, automatically switch colors, etc.

2. Rich Editing Features

DaVinci Resolve comes with everything you need to make a blockbuster movie, TV show, or commercial. Some of these features include:

  • Custom Timeline Settings
  • Facial Recognition
  • Adjustment Clips
  • Speed Warp Retiming
  • Image Stabilization, among others.

DaVinci Resolve is equipped with a high-performance playback engine for fast editing and trimming. Even if you’re dealing with a processor-intensive format like RAW, this software promises to deliver a great result.

3. Fusion VFX

DaVinci Resolve has over 250 built-in tools for editors.

With Fusion VFX’s advanced 3D compositing engine and node-based workflow, editors can conveniently connect effects tools in a flow chart style. And this could enable the easy creation of cinematic movie-quality visual effects right within the software.

4. Fairlight

Fairlight provides an integrated and powerful digital audio workstation. It includes a full mixer, EQ, dynamics processing, ADR tools, among others. There’s also the FairlightFX audio plugins.

Other features of this software include:

  • Dual timeline
  • Intelligent edit mode
  • Scalable interface
  • Cross-platform GPU accelerated tools
  • DaVinci neural engine for AI and Deep Learning features

As useful as the software may be, it does come with a few downsides.

DaVinci Resolve is like any other non-linear-editor on the market today. It provides a great way to edit video content. Unlike the previous versions of this software, the Resolve 16 offers a more streamlined and easy-to-understand workflow for users. It’s especially suitable for individuals that are new to using NLEs for video editing.
