Get uncensored access to Internet

Overview

Psiphon is an open-source tool that enables users to bypass censorship and other access restrictions — regardless of the country.

Psiphon offers the following tunneling protocols for a secure and reliable connection:

  • SSH ( Secure Shell Protocol)
  • SSH+ (A random layer on top of SSH protocol to protect against protocol fingerprinting)
  • L2TP/IPSec

Since some organizations are known to be able to decrypt SSH traffic, the SSH protocol on Psiphon may not be as secure as you would hope. The L2TP/IPSec, on the other hand, is significantly more secure.

Another Psiphon feature is the split tunneling. It allows users to select which apps will let them go through the VPN tunnel and which will do otherwise.

Speeds of Psiphon servers are average at best.

The download speed limit is 2mbps, while upload speeds can reach as much as 6mbps. It does not bypass streaming networks like Netflix. So, it is not ideal for streaming. Also, there are no IP, WebRTC, or DNS leaks.

If you are trying to access censored information in your location, and you aren't concerned about anonymity, this could be a great tool.

According to Psiphon's privacy policy, the service may work with third parties to deliver advertising to the client. And advertisers may use cookies or web beacons to serve advertising to users. Still, users could opt-out of interest-based advertising.

Psiphon does not increase your online privacy and should not be used as an online privacy tool. It was designed primarily to circumvent censorship and restrictions.

Although it doesn't store usage logs too, Psiphon collects some connection logs. These include city and country, ISP connection, how long the device was connected, original IP address, and Psiphon IP address and device type. However, this information is discarded after 60 days.

Psiphon does not require user registration, and this makes it easy to use. That means you can get started as soon as you download it.

Psiphon VPN has servers across 21 countries. These include the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Canada, Switzerland, Poland, Japan, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Denmark, Norway, Hungary, India, and Italy.

Psiphon provides apps across Windows, iOS, and Android platforms. The Android app has a Pro version that you can upgrade and a limited access regular one. Meanwhile, the Psiphon version for Windows users is available for free. Users can download, and it installs within seconds to connect to the nearest server.

On the paid version of Psiphon, users can upgrade the speed over the 2mbps limit. Along with checking your usage statistics, you'll also be able to choose a connection country. Psiphon can not be upgraded.

Psiphon is an excellent tool to unblock websites. However, it doesn't protect your privacy. Also, you'll have to deal with the speed limit imposed on the network. And this could significantly hinder your video streaming experience.
